  • Map Of The Problematique!

Problems, problems, problems….! All I wanted to do tonight was fight with swords! All I wanted to do tonight was update about fencing, but it looks like politics are set to rip the Fencing Club apart! Basically Paul, our coach, wants to teach the club the best way he sees fit. He’s an experienced fencer and coach and knows what he’s talking about and I don’t disagree with his methods. Problem is, he wants to teach the club in 6 week courses. According to the club committee (and they’re right) the Student’s Union says the club has to allow anyone who wishes to participate, to participate. Paul wants to stop people from joining, say, 2 or 3 weeks in (after missing the starting classes) and have them come back when he starts the next batch of beginners classes. If the club weren’t a University club, this would be the norm, but cos its part of the Student Union it has to abide by the SU regulations! This has led to arguments between Paul and (Sabre) Dave, who’s club chairman. Paul has said that its his job to teach fencing in a safe and professional way and if the SU won’t let him do that, they’ll have to fire him! I happen to think he’s right… the problem is the SU rules (like Sith) deal in absolutes and he can’t refuse to acknowledge them, but he is really stubborn and won’t back down! As a result our club is on hiatus, until further notice! No training, no lessons, no nothing! Which sucks, especially cos we are fencing in the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) leagues and most of the team are inexperienced. I have the experience but am rusty, and with no coaching…. well, we will probably get our asses handed to us! I didn’t come here to have my ability to fight with swords decided in a committee! I hate politics! I hate bureaucracy! Gaaaahhh

The rest of the week has been relatively straight forward! We’ve started class and have found that Takako seems to expect us to possess fluency levels akin to N class at NUFS! Maybe higher…?! She had us watch a video on a Japanese historical figure, Shirasu Jirou, who was a major player for the Japanese during the post WW2 US occupation of Japan. We had to answer questions on this video as part of a homework project.. problem is the majority of this video was way beyond any of us! As a result the entire UCLan NUFS alumni (being myself, Balex, Kate, Sandra, Alison and Yann) gathered round Kate and Balex’s and watched this video over and over and over until we had weaned just enough info out of it to give some vague answers. We did OK but if thats what all our projects are gonna be like from here on in… (Points fake gun to head. Pulls trigger! Bang!)
I’ve spent most of the rest of my time round Balex and Kate’s, but engaging in decidedly more enjoyable activities! We have pledged to watch all 6 Star Wars movies in chronological order. We reached A New Hope (Ep. 4) today. Balex and I have been playing Star Wars Lego consistently and have recently moved on to Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Same plans for tomorrow I reckon. We do a lot of NUFS reminising and sure do miss everything! Kate has even been setting about creating “Neverwinter NUFS” on her laptop! Its unlikely but if any of you can make it over this year, do it! (Holly…! Mario…! ) We will, we must, meet again!

Until then, Peace Out! Everyone! “Because of Obi Wan…?”

  • That sucks with you Fencing thingie

But do not worry in the Teddy Bear Kingdom you shall fence again!!

Oh and I am coming to England and England shall be razed to the ground because of my greatness only to be built up again because of my Greatness!!

    MUAUAAHAHAHAHAHA

Don’t worry David it will be ok!

    Viva la Teddy Bear Kingdom!

  • >.<;; I’m broke enough as is! however, if I miraculously win Lotto or something, rest assured your couch will be claimed.

sucks about the fencing though. I hate it when politics barges in and overruns a club. could you and some more experienced members of the club train by yourselves for the duration?

…alternatively, you could just Force Lightening them all.

  • Well that just beats all ne? stupid poliitics!! bah! but gambatte yo!!
i’d post a longer message but i’m pacing around like a nutter waiting for my mum and dad to come back fromthe ASDA’s before we set off to the airport to pick Teresa up…

Is that “Neverwinter NUFS” as in Neverwinter Nights?? that would be interesting as i have that game….

  • sorry dave. hope you can find a way to be happy anyway. cass’s idea sounded good. ..teach/train each other. take them lemons and make some lemonade!

  • Club politics… i hateses it! Its probably the worst part of western clubs (you never see this in asia… until the oldest, leading member dies and they fight over how it was ‘intended’ to be run)

anyways, the easiest way to settle who is right is for them to duel – muahaaa!!!

alternately, paul-coach (hey, you can say this in japanese, like paul-san or paul-sensei) could slay all the SU members after walking in to a room with them in a black cloak and force-closing the doors, ominously. hey, it would be great if all the SU ppl spoke like neimoidians!!

sucks about your japanese class – your teacher sounds crazy. then again, i envy you that you actually have a japanese class! I have nothing cos i have already done all the classes at my uni. Maybe next year march i can start some outside university special class so special people. >_<” i will go to special hell if i say it in that ‘special’ way… you remember the one. meanwhile my japanese is deteriorating fast!!

finally, in the saga that is this comment – i bought battlefront 2 for my bro’s b’day and it looks pretty cool. i still can’t play it though cos as soon as my hands touch that controller my character will die somehow (walk off a cliff or shoot wildly in random directions despite the enemy being in the middle of the screen)… you know how ‘good’ i am at compoopers. Anyway, at least i can watch, and I got to see Maul in all his glory!! though i don’t get how he doesn’t get cut when he throws his double bladed lightsaber… if it was spinning like that then one end would… oh well, it is cool anyway, especially force choking and lightnenenening your own troops because it is funny!

Well thats about enough rambling from me. Can’t wait to see the neverwinter NUFS and I-House I-Council!!

  • Good to see you’re using Battlefront II the way it was intended, Sarven! I think Dave’s and my high point was ganging up on people as Vader and Dooku and combination force-choking force-lightninging them… ‘apology accepted, princess Leia…’ ‘I find your lack of faith disturbing, Chewbacca…’

Also, clone commanders are the height of fashion, that stylin’ purple command skirt, with massive chaingun accessory… trendsetters.

  • and here i am, good to hear that star wars battle front 2 is still being played, bad to hear how your uni is screwing you up a bit, oh well “always look on the bright side of…..” yeah well *salutes*

  • I have one (2 part) word for you re the double lightsaber. “irimi-tenkan”

  • i have sympathy for you but the thing is we are the ones who put those people in charge(we meaning us government hating people) and now they have the power to say my way or the highway and point us to the door.   ah well…come check out my pretty pictures! i’m so excited. i finally got them posted. who decided that scanners have to be so complicated?

  • BUILD ME A JEDI PIC WORTHY OF MORDOR…errmm i mean Corusant

  • Wow…
Like.. Lord of the Rings x Star Wars…
That would be the god of all movies..
I need to think about this. I think I’m up to something….

    Anyways politics suck.
I know that they say “If you suck well, you will suckseed”
    But they just suck bad.
I have East-Asian Politics this semester. I am only 4 weeks into it, but have already heard enough about laos, Birmania, Oriental Timor, Phillippines, Malaysia and Thailand to last me a lifetime. Not counting the 300 pages of reading we have every week (I am late 2 weeks, so yeah)…

Like Sarven, I have been credited all my Japanese classes, so I cannot take any more, except a special class next semester (strange coincidences, ne?). For the time being I shall apply for JET and focus on my courses and WoW.

  • zOMG!

How could I forget Vietnam and Cambodia and Brunei and Indonesia?

  • thank you! i obviously don’t have your talent but I’m working on it lol. nost of the stuff i posted was pretty old so it was even worse too…

  • isn’t it funny how many people wear skirts in star wars?! capt. panaka and his naboo dudes, those troopers BAlex mentioned, darth maul kinda did… i think. or were they pantaloons? hmm, anyway…

whats a zomg? some kind of space creature?

    also – i wanna see irimi-tenkan in action…

  • a zomg is jsut a omg with a “Z” as is a lolz just a lol with a “Z” many a young internet chatter has tried to break into the world of emotacons and e-chat simply by adding a “Z” somewhere in there abbreviations….sad thing is it catchy and fun lolz

  • I have been unable to find any suitable vids of irimi-tenkan on the web. The concept is quite simple though. irimi = entering. you enter inside the arc of the swing until you are at the pivot point and then turn (tenkan) thereby enabling the energy to move with you. It is the best way to deal with many things, but especially things like a side strike with a sword. You must enter into the strike rather than try to avoid it. Allow the strike to move around you so that you can control it. Maruyama sensei once gave an amazing demo of this, which I think I have on video back in australia. The application for the double lightsaber returning would be to wait till it is about to slice you in half and then step forward so that you are right at its centre, then spin with it so that you are in control.
